Oops forgot to mention the school game!

Dd goes to nursery at the moment - it's a childcare centre rather than a school attached nursery, but recently she's started referring to the staff as teachers, and talks about taking the register and so on. Dp and I are discussing ways to rearrange our working to drop her hours there, but that is by the by.

Yesterday she decided to play schools with her three adult companions - we had to draw on command, and then there was the register - I was intrigued to see that she was making tally marks on her paper and then counting them up.

Well, I thought it was interesting :-)

How did it get to be Monday? Where does the time go??

Saturday we shopped, yesterday my friend gug (renamed from her original name by my dd) arrived, and she and I went shopping, while dd and dp gardened. They reorganised flower beds and planted flowers, and saved up criticism for me on my return that I had killed my rose pot plant!

This morning dd started the day with a game of chess (rooks with king v king) with gug, although had the same problem of not liking having her rook taken. Not quite sure what we can do about that. Other than that it's been a very quiet day - I'm less than a week from my due date for babe number 2, and I really don't feel up to much.

Sure that the homebirth will be an educational experience all round though....

Day two.

We haven't done anything yet today, but I wanted to put an entry in to cover what sort of things we have been doing recently.

Dd decided last night that she can read to me and the baby (currently a 39 week bump) and paraphrased the book that I'd just read to her really well. I was very impressed as previously she has refused to read, saying that she doesn't know how to. Not that I've been pressuring her - quite the opposite, she keeps telling me that she wants to read, but then won't let me do anything to help her.

Our other activity of the week has been chess - again her idea. We've got the chess board out a number of times, discussed all the names of the pieces, and then set up the board. To play a game we've dropped it down so that she has her rooks and a king and I just have a king. That seems to work pretty well - she gets to concentrate on the real aim of the game, and she can learn the moves to those specific pieces. We did have tears when I managed to take one of her rooks though - not quite sure how to deal with that!

Anything else? Oh yes, she has just started to feed her doll in a natural manner - love to have been a fly on the wall if she did that at nursery yesterday!

Hello all

This is the beginning of an experiment in more ways than one - I've never done a blogger, and I've not really done what you'd call home education either.

Still, dd is only 3 1/2 so I suppose all we're doing is going along with her some more as we did when she started walking, talking and generally being...

I'm waffling. I'll stop. :-)

Besides, dd and dp have just returned from upstairs, and I think it's probably time for her milk and story now!
